Connor's Photos - Aug. 2013

Our 8-year-old grandson, Connor Hestwood, stayed with us last weekend at our home in northern Minnesota. While he was there, he borrowed Grandpa's smaller camera and took some photos. He's learned from Grandpa that you need to take LOTS of shots and then only show your very best ones. So, out of the 325 photos he took, Connor chose these as his best work. He hopes you enjoy his photos along with a few taken of him by Grandpa.

We went out fishing early one morning and found some loons visiting from other lakes. They must have been curious about us because they swam very close to our pontoon.
Here's a closer look at one of those loons.
Connor decided he needed a nice scenic shot of our lake.
Connor took a close-up photo of some Red Baneberry fruit. We did discuss the fact that this is a not a good berry to eat because it will make you sick.

In our wildflower garden Connor took a photo of this Black-eyed Susan. We then noticed a Goldenrod Crab spider hiding on the yellow petals.
Lots of Wild Bergamot is blooming right now so that made a good photo subject.
Connor can identify many of the birds who come to our feeders. He took this photo of a male Red-winged Blackbird.
He also got a photo of two finches together at the feeder. This is a Goldfinch (on the left) and a Purple Finch.

We went to Grand Rapids and visited the Children's Museum. They have a T-Rex skull mounted on the wall and I took a photo of Connor next to it.
One of the exhibits at the museum is a collection of taxidermy mounts donated by a local resident. I really like this photo because it looks like Connor and the lioness are sharing a good laugh. It also looks like the lioness is ready to give Connor a high five.
A high five with a lioness might not be a good idea when you see Connor's close-up photo of the claws.

Connor took photos of all the animals in the collection. This Alligator is one of his favorites.
We agreed this is an antelope but we couldn't remember which species.
Here's a "mug shot" of an antelope.

We were very impressed at the size of this Bison head.
Connor agreed to pose by this Grizzly Bear.
But he wanted to take a close-up of the bear's head.
The teeth of this Coyote are very impressive!

This Leopard is staring right at us.
Here's a real cutie, a Warthog.
This Sable Antelope was bigger than we expected.
Last, but not least, a Wild Turkey.
