March 5, 2023 - Bald Eagle Fight

Last week I was in Eastpoint, Florida, looking for birds along the shore of Apalachicola Bay. I noticed these two juvenile Bald Eagles sitting on an oyster bar in the bay. I took a picture of them, not realizing what was about to happen.

A couple of minutes later, one of the Eagles came flying toward the other one.

I held the shutter button down as the two Eagles battled with each other. Here’s a sequence of photos taken during the fight.

Finally, they settled down and sat quite near each other. The fight sequence took less than 6 seconds. I’m not sure what that was all about. It didn’t seem to be a dispute about food. Probably just two teen-aged Eagles trying to prove which one of them was the toughest.
