Oct. 2, 2022 - Australia - Robins

I just returned from a 16-day bird photography tour along the eastern coast of Australia and the island of Tasmania. Australian Robins were one of the groups of birds that we photographed. These birds are not related to our American Robin, which is actually a Thrush. This is a Pink Robin

This juvenile Eastern Yellow Robin was sitting on a branch waiting to be fed by one of its parents. I waited to see if I could get a photo of the adult, but it didn’t return before I had to leave.

Most Australian Robins are quite colorful, but some are drab like this Gray-headed Robin. I’m sure it helps them to blend in with the vegetation.

This is a Hooded Robin. Australian Robins are small birds. They are about the size of our warblers.

This is a Pale Yellow Robin.

One of my favorite Australian birds is the Flame Robin.

The Scarlet Robin looks somewhat like a Flame Robin. But its back and head are black while the Flame Robin is gray on the back and head. Also, the Scarlet Robin has a larger white spot above its beak.
