Here are some flower photos taken at our lake home in northern Minnesota.

We have several Bleeding Heart bushes planted beside our house. They are very early bloomers; this photo was taken May 28. That might seem late to some of you, but, in northern Minnesota, that’s early.

These are the flowers produced by a Juneberry tree. The fruits of the tree are very attractive to birds.

Another early bloomer is the Wild Violet. It’s a short plant with very small flowers. It blooms early so it can get the sun before trees get their leaves and keep it in the shade.

This is Golden Alexander. It, and the next three flowers, are the first ones to bloom this year in our wildflower garden. There will be many more varieties throughout the summer.

Yellow Hawkweed is native to Europe. It was introduced in New York in 1879. It was intended to be an ornamental but has spread so much that it’s now considered invasive.

This plant is called Indian Paintbrush. The orange part of the plant is a bract, not a flower. The actual flowers are small and yellow. A few of them can be seen in this photo.

Ox-eye Daisy is a common and well recognized wildflower. I read that an individual flower can have from fifteen to forty white petals. It is also native to Europe but has spread to many other countries. I read that it is considered invasive in forty countries, as it is here in the USA. I think that’s too bad, because it is such a cheerful looking flower.
