Feb. 20, 2022 - Sanibel - Funny Photos

Here are some funny photos taken during our trip to Sanibel Island, Florida, last December.

To get its meal, a Brown Pelican will fly along the Gulf Coast and dive into the water when it sees a fish. This one was photographed just as it was entering the water.

This Brown Pelican wasn’t as graceful as it hit the water. In fact, it appears to be trying to win the contest for “most water splashed into the air upon entry.”

When a Brown Pelican isn’t fishing but just wants to land on the water, it comes in with its huge, webbed feet acting like water skis.

Sanderlings are tiny shorebirds that run along the beach like little wind-up toys. They are so quick, they usually manage to stay just out of the reach of the waves. This one almost had its head submerged.

In the pools along the Ding Darling Wildlife Drive, you often see Mullet jumping out of the water. I’ve always thought it would be fun to get a picture of one of them doing that. It’s a great challenge, of course, because you never know where they will appear. You need to wait for one to jump, then swing your camera into position, focus, and shoot. After many unsuccessful attempts, I finally caught one in midair.
