May 23, 2021 - Last of the Florida Pictures

Here’s my last set of photos from our Jan. – Feb. stay in Florida. Let’s start with a cute one. This is a Brown-headed Nuthatch. This bird’s call sounds like a little squeaky toy. It’s a small bird, only 4½ inches long. That’s the same size as a Red-breasted Nuthatch. It’s a year-round resident in the Southeastern United States.

I wasn’t expecting to see “fall colors” in Florida but I did find a few colorful leaves on St. George Island.

This huge collection of buoys was hanging on the side of a building in Apalachicola.

I was pleased to get both a male and female Hooded Merganser in the same photo at St. Marks NWR. We put out a Wood Duck box on our lake in northern Minnesota and this year it’s being used by a Hooded Merganser.

This is a typical beach scene from St. George Island State Park. It has beautiful white sand and lots of sea oats growing on the dunes.

During the winter in northern Florida, there are a few butterflies still flying around. This is a Cloudless Sulfur.
