June 6, 2021 - Spring Flowers

Here are some of the flower photos I’ve taken this spring.

Bloodroot is one of the earliest blooming plants in our area. This photo was taken about a month ago along the road leading to our northern Minnesota home. Notice the rolled-up leaves that surround the flower stem. All parts of the Bloodroot plant have orange-red juice which was used as a dye by Native Americans.

Marsh Marigolds start blooming at the same time as Bloodroot. We always find them in the ditches right near the Bloodroot. Their bright yellow flowers are one of the first cheerful signs of spring.

When the brilliant pink flowers on apple trees burst open, it’s enough to take your breath away. This is a portion of a tree right outside the window in my office at our Twin Cities apartment.

The yellow flowers of Golden Alexander are the first ones to open in our wildflower garden. We are pleased to see more of these plants each year. This photo was taken about a week ago at our northern Minnesota home

Columbine is one of my favorite spring flowers. It has such an interesting shape and is supported by a thin, delicate stem. This photo was also taken about a week ago in our wildflower garden.

We have a group of Large Yellow Lady’s-slippers growing on a hillside at our lake home. This year I counted 47 blossoms. This photo was taken the same day as the previous two photos.

We have several patches of Pussytoes growing in our yard.

Wild Roses are just beginning to open. I took this photo yesterday at our lake home and got a bonus insect in the shot.
