April 5, 2020 - Favorite Bird Photos From Florida
Read MoreThis Great Blue Heron was on the beach at St. George Island State Park. It was stationed near a fisherman hoping to get a handout. I like how the breeding plumes on its head and neck are gently swaying in the breeze. I also like the wave in the background that nicely frames the bird’s head and upper body.
At Sikes Cut there are always lots of terns flying around. I assumed that they were all Foresters Terns. Later, when I looked at the photos on my computer, the yellow tip on the end of this bird’s beak made me realize that it was, in fact, a Sandwich Tern. In northern Florida I usually don’t see Sandwich Terns in the winter.
