June 9, 2019 - Spring Warblers
Read MoreBirders in Minnesota eagerly await spring migration so they can again see one of their favorite groups of birds: the wood warblers. Usually the earliest warblers to arrive back in Minnesota are the Yellow-rumped Warblers. In this photo you can see the yellow rump and also the patches of yellow on its head and under its wing. This photo was taken at Reservoir Woods Park in Roseville, MN.

on June 10, 2019Hi Linda, Both of them are pretty drab looking and have white eye rings, but the Ruby-crowned Kinglet has a prominent white wing bar and the Orange-crowned Warbler does not. The Kinglet is also smaller but that is only helpful if you see them together. Here's a link to my kinglet photos. On some of them you can see the ruby crown. https://www.earlorfphotos.com/Birds/Birds-HM/Kinglets/

on June 9, 2019Great photos, Earl! How can you tell the difference between a ruby-crowned and orange-crowned warbler when their little crest isn't showing?
