June 16, 2019 - Lilac Visitors

We have Lilac bushes at our lake home in northern Minnesota. Last Monday they were in full bloom. This photo was taken from the flat roof of our tuck-under garage.

This photo of a cluster of the Lilac flowers brings back to me the memory of their lovely fragrance. Not only is it pleasing to humans, but it also attracts many insects as well. I decided to stay on the garage roof for one hour and photograph all the insect visitors to these plants during that time.

This is a Tri-colored Bumble Bee.

A wasp even showed up and landed on one of the Lilac leaves.

Several dragonflies came to the Lilac bushes. This is a Common Baskettail.

A Four-spotted Skimmer landed on the flowers.

A tiny butterfly named a Hobomok Skipper was one of the visitors.

Several Tiger Swallowtails were frequent visitors to the Lilacs.
