De. 15, 2019 - Frost Crystals on Glass

Every once in a while, low temperature and moisture in the air combine to create frost crystals on glass surfaces. That happened on the porch windows at our home in northern Minnesota recently and I grabbed my camera to record them before the crystals disappeared. I converted this photo to black and white and it really makes the shape of the crystals stand out.

I was concentrating on finding interesting patterns of crystals and wasn’t paying close attention to what was outside in the background of the photos. As a nature photographer, I should always be checking the background. However, when I downloaded the photos to my computer, I had the pleasant surprise of finding some beautiful background colors, like the blue in this one.

The red color in this photo might have been one of our bird feeders.

Here’s one with a strong blue tint to it.

This one makes me think of snowflakes in the air.

In this photo there are some dense patches of closely packed crystals.
