Read MoreFireweed was blooming along the shore at Fenstad’s Resort where we stayed. The flowers don’t open all at once. Those at the bottom open first, then over a period of time, the rest open from bottom to top. In this photo, the lowest blossoms have already bloomed and formed seed pods. Those in the middle are open, and at the top are buds that haven’t opened yet.
As we were driving along the Honeymoon Trail in Cook County, I saw this on the side of a tree. After searching the internet, Diana and I thought it resembled Silvery Staghorn Lichen. That’s not a positive ID so if you know what it is, please either leave a comment below or send me an email (earlorf@uslink.net) to confirm its identity.
