Oct. 7, 2018 - More North Shore Photos

Here are some more photos from our trip to the North Shore. This one was actually taken on the road by our home in Itasca County, but we were on our way to the North Shore. It’s a very nice arrangement of several Fly Amanita mushrooms. They are poisonous but still pleasing to the eye.

Butter and Eggs flowers were still blooming along the North Shore. They are classified as an invasive species, but never the less, the flowers are very interesting. I was pleased to get open blooms and buds in one photo. This was taken near Black Beach in Silver Bay.

Here’s a young White-tailed Deer that was grazing in someone’s yard along the Sawbill trail in Cook County.

Fireweed was blooming along the shore at Fenstad’s Resort where we stayed. The flowers don’t open all at once. Those at the bottom open first, then over a period of time, the rest open from bottom to top. In this photo, the lowest blossoms have already bloomed and formed seed pods. Those in the middle are open, and at the top are buds that haven’t opened yet.

One morning the humidity was high and dew was forming on everything. On occasions like this, I’m always on the lookout for spider webs because they really show up when covered with dew.

As we were driving along the Honeymoon Trail in Cook County, I saw this on the side of a tree. After searching the internet, Diana and I thought it resembled Silvery Staghorn Lichen. That’s not a positive ID so if you know what it is, please either leave a comment below or send me an email (earlorf@uslink.net) to confirm its identity.
