We “birders” are always looking to add a species to our record lists, so, when a Lark Bunting showed up at Park Point in Duluth, Minnesota, I took a detour on my way to our lake home in order to see it. It’s not a “life” bird for me but I hadn’t seen one in Minnesota. It’s a bird of the western plains but every once in a while, one shows up in Minnesota.

I got lucky and took a shot of the lark bunting flying off a branch. It’s a sparrow-sized bird, about 7 inches long. This is its non-breeding plumage. During the breeding season, it is all black with white wings.

Chipmunks are always cute little mammals. This one was in our yard in northern Minnesota.

We do have Snowshoe Hares at our lake home, but they are rarely seen. I think they are usually out at night but this one was in our yard during the day. I hope I get to see one in its white winter coat.

I know that I’ve shown you photos of Painted Turtles sunning themselves at our lake home before, but this one takes the cake! Eight turtles on one log!
