March 18, 2018 - Bird Photos with Props - 3

I wanted to use local vegetation in my bird photos, so I added some red Yaupon berries to my two wooden perches.

A Gray Catbird landed on the smaller of the perches. The red berries added a nice touch of color, even if they did clash with the bird’s rusty colored undertail feathers.

When the sun is just coming up over the horizon, it gives a golden glow to the background. I covered myself with a camouflage sheet so that even this normally shy male Eastern Towhee wasn’t bothered by my presence.

A Yellow-rumped Warbler was also a regular visitor.

Yaupon berries are a favorite food of mockingbirds. They often choose a bush full of berries and chase off any other birds that dare to come near the bush. Fortunately, I got some photos of other birds before the mockingbird got there and ate all the berries.
