Oct. 29, 2017 - Oregon-Part 1

Diana and I recently went on a trip to the Oregon coast. We flew into Portland, rented a car, and stayed the first night in Salem. The next day, we drove to Bandon, a small town on the Pacific coast. On the way, we stopped at a viewing area where a herd of Elk could be seen.

This was the dominant bull and he had a harem of several dozen cows and calves.

We stayed in Bandon for about two weeks. One day, we drove north to Simpson Reef Overlook. This is Shell Island, which can be seen from the viewing platform. The flat area in front of the big rock is covered with California Sea Lions and Steller Sea Lions. At the very bottom of this photo there are some rocks and the white objects on these rocks are Harbor Seals.

We had even better looks at Harbors Seals in Bandon. This one is taking a nap on a rock. How comfortable can that be?

This is the view from the condo unit we rented. We had several spectacular sunsets looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Those rocks along the shore are called sea stacks and they are huge! There are two people along the shore, about in the middle from left to right, to give some perspective on the size of the rocks.
