Jan. 29, 2017 - Sand Sculptures

During our stay in Florida, we drove to Sanibel Island and stayed there for a week. It’s on the southeast coast of Florida near Ft. Myers. The beach, and its abundance of shells, apparently inspires the artistic talents of visitors. We saw many sand sculptures decorated with shells. This is a very clever crab.

I used the camera on my phone to get more of an overhead view of some sculptures. As I took this photo, a couple sitting in beach chairs nearby told me it was their daughter’s art work. I don’t think it represents anything in particular but it is well done.

Here’s another one taken with my phone because it was so large, I wouldn’t be able to get all of it in the picture with my big camera. This intricate sea star was about five feet across. Someone worked hard to cover it with all those shells.

I was able to take this Octopus photo with my big camera because I could get pretty far away from it. This sculpture must have been about 8 feet from side to side.

One night I stayed out until dark photographing Terns. I was rewarded with this beautiful view of the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico.
