Dec. 17, 2017 - Wildlife Safari Park - 2

Last week I mentioned that Diana and I visited the Wildlife Safari Park when we were in Oregon in October. They had several Chilean Flamingos right near the visitor center. They are tall, stately birds with beautiful pink feathers. Their height ranges from 43 to 51 inches.

When this flamingo opened its mouth, we got a great look at its very unusual beak.

This Acorn Woodpecker was not captive; it was a wild bird that just happened to live within the boundaries of the park. It’s always a pleasure to see one of these woodpeckers with its clown-like facial markings.

Acorn Woodpeckers are known for drilling many holes in the side of a tree and storing acorns in these holes.

Here’s a close-up of the tree. You can see the acorns that have been stashed for eating during the winter.

During our travels around Oregon, we came across this lovely mountain stream. It was rainy and foggy that day, but even so, the changing colors of the leaves stood out against the green of the evergreen trees.
