Sept. 22, 2013 - Frosty Morning on the North Shore
Read MoreDiana and I just returned from a week on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I was out early one morning and realized that the temperature had dropped below freezing. Frost was coating all the plants. I rushed to take photos before the sun melted everything. You can see the tiny frozen droplets on the petals of this aster flower.
One of the first things you learn as a photographer is to have the sun at your back. Well, sometimes that rule needs to be broken. I was standing along one side of the Baptism River near Finland, Minnesota. Heavy fog was lifting off the river and the sun was rising behind some pine trees on the other side. That early, golden light lit up the outlines of the trees and I took one of my favorite photos of the whole trip.

on September 22, 2013I agree with your assessment of the sun at your back rulle, Earl. The photo with the trees in golden glow is beautiful because you have broken that rule.
