Nov. 11, 2012- Photo Workshop – Part 5 - Snow
Read MoreOne morning during our North House Folk School photo workshop, we heard that it was snowing on the Gunflint Trail. We jumped into our cars and drove up there because we knew it wouldn’t last. On the way, we stopped and took photos of this snowy scene. The snow in the distance gives the hills a layered look.
When we got to the South Brule River, there were several inches of snow on the ground. This red leaf looks like it has a light coating of snow around the edges. Actually, the wind had been blowing and the wet snow coated the entire back side of the leaf. Right after I took this shot, I called another photographer over to see the leaf. But, in the few seconds that it took him to reach me, the snow had fallen off the leaf and it no longer had this outlined look.
We were looking for interesting patterns made by the snow. I took this shot because the leaf was partially covered with clinging snow. However, it wasn’t until I downloaded the photo to my computer and started editing it that I fully appreciated the jagged edges of the leaf and the green and brown color pattern.
