Nov. 28, 2010 - Last Photos from Gatorland

At Gatorland, near Kissimmee, Florida, the birds and the Alligators share the same pond. I can only conclude that this Alligator wasn’t hungry and this Great Egret knew that. The Egret was stalking something and walked right by the gator.

Anhingas feed regurgitated fish to their chicks. This youngster wasn’t waiting for the fish to be delivered; it was going in after it! I’m amazed that it didn’t poke out through the back of the adult’s neck.

Marsh Rabbits are smaller than the common Eastern Cottontail. They also have proportionally smaller ears, legs, and tail. Another difference is that they tend to walk rather than hop. They are only found in areas with access to water and are very good swimmers. You can find them in the southeastern United States. The Great Horned Owl and Northern Harrier are their main predators.

The folks at Gatorland must keep Cuddles the Boa Constrictor well fed because this shelter was right along the walking path with no barrier in between.
